International Women’s Day

This day recognizes and appreciates all the sacrifices done by a mother, a sister, a daughter and a wife.  It values and celebrates their achievements on a global scale.

In my opinion, there should be no International Women’s Day. Why? Because I believe everyday is a women’s day. Shouldn’t we appreciate all the women’s we have in our lives everyday who made us the person we are today? These amazing women needs more love, affection, appreciation and recognition than just one day.

Let this day be the beginning where we start to value all the women in our lives, including ourselves. Hug a mother for all the pain she went through to bring a child into this world. Say good words to those suffering from being overweight. Support those going through depression. Stand up for those facing injustice for many years. Do something right.

Let this day be the beginning where we recognize that women are not the weaker sex, but superior to this male-dominant world. We bring a whole generation into existence. We are not vulnerable beings who should be controlled or abused. We have the right to speak for ourselves. We have the power to destroy those who eradicate our self-esteem and confidence. We have dreams and emotions. We are woman of color. We are the future.

Today a woman in Kazakhstan came up to me and said something in Russian. it took me a while but I finally understood that she was trying to say, “Happy National Women’s Day.” Your post made me smile just thinking about it.

I agree, we are worth celebrating each and every day – although having a commemorative day to honor ourselves is still grand. It’s like Christmas for example – it’s one day to celebrate the birth of Christ but we continue to love and praise him throughout the year.
