Since F.R.I.E.N.D.S is available on Netflix, I know almost everyone who watches the show with their family for entertainment and to revive those childhood memories. I was excited about the show myself since it had been a while I had watched it. For those who aren’t aware of the show, F.R.I.E.N.D.S is a comedy show that started in 1994 and lasted for 10 years. The story line revolves around six friends (three men and three women) who live together in New York.
F.R.I.E.N.D.S has been a part of everyone’s lives especially the 1980-1990’s kid. Honestly, I never understood their jokes. I just laughed because of the laughing track. However, now that I am a mother and I do understand those dirty jokes; I don’t like the show anymore.
Shocked?? I am too!! But let me explain. I know there are many who will disagree with me, but I do know that all the mothers are in the same boat.

It has offensive jokes.
Monica is accused of being fat all the time. It may be funny for slim people but those who are fat, it is very offensive. You don’t go around saying that to your best friends.
-
Sleeping around is a Norm.
It amazing how none of them gets HIV even after doing the dirty business with everyone. No wonder Rachel doesn’t know who the father of her baby is. Even though it’s an American show, it doesn’t give an accurate portrait of the country.
-
Joey is Spooky.
Joey objectifies women. He doesn’t consider them as a human being but only a one-night stand. He may act stupid, but he is disgusting.
-
Its Racist.
Have you ever thought of why everyone on the show is white? America in 1990 had a diverse population but the ‘show’ doesn’t show that.
-
Its Impractical.
Sitting in the coffee shop for hours, being jobless and having an apartment in New York is unreal. Joey and Phoebe are unemployed most of the time on the show.
Next time you watch F.R.I.E.N.D.S, think about what you are implanting in your children. It is sexist, racist and definitely not a family show. I am not a feminist but I feel we should save our 50 hours by watching something productive with our children than a few episodes of this poignant show.
Please don’t hesitate to express your opinions about the show.
Very true… I rewatched all 10 seasons recently but frankly counldnt watch even 1 episode with my kids.
Its great for reviving old memories but its defeintly not for kids to watch.

I think F.R.I.E.N.D. is a good comedy serial but one should watch with friends or alone.

I don’t have children yet but I never thought about it from a kids aspect. I think when we were growing up we saw a ton of stuff that was inappropriate but it went right over our heads. Nowaways I think kids are maturing faster and understanding more of what’s being put in front of them more quickly. I completely agree that if I had little kids I wouldn’t let them watch friends until they were a bit older

I think Friends is a family show. I grew up watching it and didn’t realize the jokes or any of the storylines were bad until I watch it back now.
